This is the unit for those. It is solar powered and it cycles three different deterrents on an automatic timer, then rests before starting again.
The cycle matters more than any single method: birds habituate quickly to a noise that never changes, and a unit that varies what it does and then goes quiet is far harder to ignore.
It is hands free. Once it is sited and switched on there is nothing to do but keep the solar panel clean.
It is an area deterrent and it works best alongside a physical barrier rather than instead of one, which is what the manufacturer says too.
The reason this unit cycles rather than running continuously is the single most important thing about it. Any constant noise becomes background within days, and a bird that has learned a sound means nothing will feed underneath it. Varying the frequency, switching to audible calls, and then going silent for seven minutes all work against that.
Site it where the sound has somewhere to go. Solid obstructions shadow it, so a unit tucked behind a building protects the building and very little else. Height helps, and so does pointing it across the area you actually care about.

Does it work on small birds?
