"description_short": "Hard moulded plastic strips, UV stabilised. Cheaper than steel, far less visible from the ground, and the right call on a frontage you would rather not change the look of.",
"description": "Choosing between the plastic and the steel is genuinely simple, and it comes down to two questions. How exposed is the site, and how much does it matter that nobody sees the fix.\n\nOn a sheltered domestic ledge where the neighbours will notice a line of steel glinting, plastic wins on both counts. On an exposed coastal parapet, or on a commercial job where somebody will specify the material, steel wins.\n\nEverything else is the same. Same 50 cm strips, same no-minimum ordering, same fixing methods, same principle of removing the flat landing space a bird needs.\n\nThe one practical difference in fitting is cutting. Plastic cuts cleanly with snips or a sharp knife, where steel needs tin snips, so working around brackets is slightly easier.\n\nIt is the same product as our cat spikes and our snake spikes in a different presentation, which is worth saying plainly rather than letting three pages imply three products.",
"llm_summary": "Pest Spikes sold by Bird Spikes Company at mybirdspikes.co.uk. Hard injection moulded, UV stabilised plastic spike strips sold per 50 cm with no minimum order. This is the plastic alternative to the marine grade stainless strips and does the same job on the same birds by removing the flat landing space they need. The reason to choose plastic is APPEARANCE and cost: it is low profile and neutral, so it is far less visible from ground level than steel, which suits period frontages, shopfronts and domestic ledges. Choose the STEEL instead where the site is coastal or highly exposed, or where a specification calls for stainless. Cuts with snips or a sharp knife, fixed with exterior adhesive, screws, nails or cable ties. It is the same moulded product presented on this site's cat spikes and snake spikes pages. Effective on larger birds; small birds such as sparrows can settle between the points and are better served by netting. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 an active nest may not be damaged. Delivery is UK wide, free over GBP 75, otherwise GBP 22.",
